Epworth goes to Spain

28th August 2017

Epworth went to Spain on Saturday 5 August during the Epworth Gala Ball. 1300 guests wined, dined and danced in the Palladium Ballroom at Crown raising funds in support of innovation at Epworth.

The event was supported by major sponsor Medownick Laser Clinic, Associate Sponsor Slade Pharmacy and over fifty other corporate sponsors.

Entertainer Matt Hetherington was Master of Ceremonies encouraging everyone to dig deep on the 12 live auctions, 280 silent auctions and major raffle with first prize being business class flights to Europe with Singapore Airlines.

Other fabulous prizes up for grabs included a fabulous hospitality package with Levantine Hill winery, diamond and ruby pendant pearl necklace from Catanach’s and exotic holidays in Noosa, Bali, Phuket and France.

Guests were blown away by the entertainment including violinist Sallie Campbell, La Rumba performers and dance band which had doctors, staff and friends dancing the night away on the central dance floor.

This event was organized by the Epworth Medical Foundation together with the Epworth Special Events Committee chaired by Mrs Cathi Biddick.  Foundation staff, committee members and a thirty volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the event’s success.

Last year the Epworth Medical Foundation established the Centenary Fund to be launched in Epworth’s centennial year in 2020.  Funds raised from the Epworth Gala Ball along with major gifts will be used to build a $50 million corpus.  The interest from the corpus will secure the development of further innovation at Epworth in education, research and patient support programs in perpetuity.

More than a dozen people pledged $10,000 or more towards the establishment of the fund at the event.  The room fell silent when Associate Professor Ron Dick announced that a grateful patient had pledged $750k in support of innovation at Epworth.

The Epworth Board of Management agreed to match every dollar raised at the gala event, doubling the net profit on the night.  Executive Director of the Epworth Medical Foundation, Scott Bulger said “with this support, the event raised $2.4 million towards the Centenary Fund for innovative projects at Epworth in perpetuity.

We acknowledge and thank all our sponsors for their support.
