of all sleep-related medical disorders, including:

  • Clinical assessment by a Specialist Sleep Physician
  • Overnight Polysomnography (Sleep Study)
  • Discussion and Evaluation of the most appropriate treatment options
  • Follow-up and assessment of response to treatment.

Sleep Disorders

Sleep Apnoea or Sleep-Disordered Breathing is a very common and the most medically important sleep disorder. We also evaluate and manage other disorders including snoring, periodic limb movement disorder, narcolepsy, insomnia and parasomnias.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnoea

Many people are unaware that they have a sleep disorder. Symptoms that they or their partner may notice include:

  • Loud disruptive snoring
  • Cessation of breathing or gasping during sleep
  • Unrefreshing sleep
  • Morning headaches
  • Excessive sleepiness
  • Feeling sleepy while driving or at work
  • Poor memory
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Mood or behaviour disturbance
  • Loss of interest in sex.

Sleep Apnoea is more common in obese or overweight people and can increase your risk of motor vehicle accidents, hypertension, heart disease and stroke.

We have close links with other specialists skilled in the management of sleep
disorders including ENT surgeons, Specialist Dentist and Sleep Psychologists.

Other Respiratory and Sleep Physicians can refer direct to our service for sleep studies.

If you have already been assessed by a Respiratory or Sleep Physician, an overnight sleep study can be arranged directly. Our facilities include the latest Sleep Monitoring equipment, located in a dedicated Sleep Unit, separate from general hospital beds. Overnight, your breathing pattern during sleep will be monitored in relation to the different stages of sleep.We also assess your sleep quality, monitor for movement disorders and cardiac irregularity. Your study will be supervised and monitored by our highly skilled sleep scientists.
