Gynaecology

Gynaecology is the diagnosis and treatment of disorders effecting female reproductive organs. The gynaecology department at Epworth Freemasons performs surgery and medical treatment for:

  • Gynaecological cancers
  • Benign gynaecological conditions (e.g. fibroids, prolapse)
  • Investigative procedures of the female genital tract
  • Advanced Laparoscopic surgery
  • Infertility
  • Endometriosis
  • Incontinence issues
  • Post Natal Care

The department has visiting specialists including Gynae-Oncology Surgeons, Obstetric and General Gynaecologists, Fertility specialists and Medical specialists.

Features of the gynaecology department include:

  • Experienced regular staff trained in Gynaecological Care and Midwifery
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Pre-admission Facilitator (Registered Nurse)
  • Chemotherapy on ward
  • Nursery
  • Fridges in some rooms
  • Coffee and tea making facilities in ward kitchen

Visitors

Visitors to the department should note that the balconies are a restricted area – please do not allow children out onto the balconies. Visiting hours are 2-30-4pm, 6-30 – 8pm. All patients have a rest in the afternoon and there is strictly no visiting between 1.30-2.30pm.

Most doctors provide written information about the relevant procedure, including a patient pathway brochure produced by the ward. This discusses usual patient progress for the procedures, day by day. Discharge information is also provided prior to admission. If you have not received this information, please ask your nurse. Further general information is available on the ward, and more specific information can be obtained form the gynaecological clinical nurse specialist.
