Cosmetic and Reconstructive
Plastic Surgery is a broad ranging specialty, with care ranging from the surgical management of moles to entire facelifts. Plastic surgery commonly involves manipulation of the skin: either shaping or moving skin to improve its look, fill a hole created by the removal of a cancer or replace skin lost through injury or burns.
A large part of the work performed by a plastic surgeon is hand surgery.
Surgeons treat skin cancers including performing surgery on squamous cell carcinomas (SCC's) and melanoma. Where the defect created by the cancer is large, a skin graft may be required.
Breast surgery including reduction, augmentation (enlarging with implants) and reconstruction after mastectomy is available at Epworth Freemasons. Women with asymmetric or drooping breasts can also be treated. Plastic surgery can also improve congenial conditions affecting children, such as extra or webbed fingers and toes, or prominent ears.
