Quality of Care

Epworth HealthCare is dedicated to the provision of safe, high quality care and services to its’ patients and their families or carers. The organisation continually strives to improve performance by monitoring, reviewing and evaluating all aspects of care and service delivery.

Accreditation

Epworth HealthCare underwent an organisation wide accreditation survey in October 2008 through the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards (ACHS). It received an ‘Outstanding Achievement’ for its commitment to research and its many projects supporting better patient outcomes. In August 2010, it was reassessed by ACHS at its periodic review and had three of its criteria upgraded to reflect ‘Excellence Achievement’.

ACHS accreditation recognises Epworth HealthCare’s ability to demonstrate "significant achievements and improvements in relation to contemporary health care standards".

A further testament to the quality and safety of care provided within Epworth HealthCare is Epworth Richmond's Emergency Department; which is the only hospital in the private health sector accredited by the Department of Human Services to accept time critical medical patients.

Patient Rights and Responsibilities

The Private Patients' Hospital Charter, published by the Australian Government, outlines what it means to be a private patient in hospital facility. It aims to support a partnership between patients, the hospital and health care professionals by providing a clear statement of expectations that is understood by both patients and care providers. It also provides information about what to do if you have a problem with your medical treatment or health insurance.
