Post Graduate Course in Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing

Epworth HealthCare invites nursing staff to undertake the Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing offered in partnership with Monash University as part of the Masters of Nursing.

Course Structure

  • One subject per semester
  • 6 study days at Monash University Clayton on alternating weeks (mixture of lectures and practical lab sessions)
  • 1 hour tutorial held at Epworth Richmond on non-lecture weeks
  • Extensive on-line resources
  • Integrated work place assessments
  • Support of Clinical Nurse Educator.

Course outline

Semester 1: Commences late February 2012
Advanced Pathophysiology & Health Assessment
You will develop proficiency in health through the development of skills related to: assessment, interviewing; physical appraisal, assessment data analysis, incorporating changes in health assessment related to the age of the client and culture and ethnic variations; comprehensive, periodic and focused health assessments.

Semester 2: Commences mid July 2012
Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing Practice
As an Medical Surgical Nurse you require a diverse knowledge and skill base to appropriately and effectively assess and manage patients in a hospital environment. You will be provided the opportunity to acquire and develop skills in advanced practice issues, clinical risk management and outcome resolution, whilst developing proficiency in the holistic management of patients in a variety of hospital settings.
