Doctors who wish to admit patients to any of the Epworth HealthCare campuses will need to be accredited by Epworth HealthCare. The Epworth HealthCare group comprises Epworth Richmond, Epworth Eastern, Epworth Rehabilitation and Epworth Freemasons.
To obtain forms and other information relating to accreditation of doctors, please email accreditation@epworth.org.au with your name and contact details.
Good clinical governance includes attention to the highest principles of patient care, but also requires the adoption of clinical audit and other measures intended to ensure that medical staff are not only “doing the right thing” but can objectively demonstrate that they are “doing the right thing”. Participation in educational activities, including staff training, and participation in emergency rosters are examples of the kind of commitment to excellence that Epworth expects of its doctors.
Neither accreditation nor re-accreditation is an automatic process and requires reasonable evidence of a commitment to clinical governance, including:
- Participation in clinical audit activities
- Evidence of continuing medical education
- An acceptance of evidence-based medicine where appropriate
- A commitment to the affairs of the hospital where appropriate
The Three Tiers of Accreditation
Epworth HealthCare has a three-tiered accreditation system as follows:
- Tier A: Basic Accreditation
- Tier B: Accreditation for Advanced, Emerging and/or Controversial Procedures
- Tier C: Accreditation for New Procedures
In addition, Epworth has specific accreditation requirements for the following procedures and specialties:
- Interventional Radiological Procedures
- Invasive Cardiac Procedures. Major Extracorporeal Perfusion
- Use of the Da Vinci Robot
