The peak medical body is the group Medical Advisory Council, a committee of the Board of Management. The Chairman of the Medical Advisory Council, elected by peers, is a full voting member of the Board for the term of office as chairman. Epworth Eastern, Epworth Richmond and Epworth Freemasons have their own smaller Medical Advisory Committees which report to the group Medical Advisory Council. Members of the group MAC are elected by the local medical committees.
The Executive Medical Director (EMD) is employed by the hospital and is responsible for the implementation of good clinical governance across the organisation. The EMD is chairman of the Clinical Governance Council and of the Medical Staff Forum. The Clinical Governance Council is a committee of the Medical Advisory Council. The Medical Staff Forum comprises senior doctors who are employed by Epworth on either a whole time or part time basis.
Other important committees include the Anaesthetic Advisory Committee, the Infection Control Committee and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
