Epworth has long been involved in the education of undergraduate medical students and, to a lesser extent, the postgraduate training of young doctors.
Epworth currently has four Intensive Care Unit registrars, two registrars in rehabilitation medicine, one Emergency Department registrar, two Cardiology Fellows, one Orthopaedic Fellow and provision for two Surgical Registrars.
The medical education program is supervised by the Director of Medical Education, Associate Professor Geoffrey Metz, a clinical sub-dean at The University of Melbourne. Prof. Metz works closely with key stakeholders in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the university.
For further information please contact Associate Professor Geoffrey Metz, phone 03 9426 8504.
The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons has approved Epworth as an approved site for specialist surgical training. As well, Epworth maintains a highly successful and regular education program for undergraduate students from both Melbourne and Monash Universities. Lectures are conducted twice a month in the auditorium at Epworth Richmond, with senior specialist clinicians accredited to Epworth freely giving their time and experience. The lecture series is widely applauded and its popularity is evidenced by the fact that there often is only standing room left in the auditorium on lecture night.
Epworth HealthCare also has Chairs in Nursing in association with Deakin University and Neuropsychology in association with Monash University. The Director of Epworth Richmond attained the title of Adjunct Professor (Deakin) in recognition of her commitment to the advanced training of clinical nurses.
