Academic Chairs

The Victor Smorgon Epworth Institute
of Education and Research

The Smorgon Family, through their generous $7.5M benefaction, has established the Victor Smorgon Epworth Institute of Education and Research.

The Institute provides a focus for Epworth to expand its teaching and research capabilities, including the training of medical registrars and fellows and progressing the establishment of Clinical Institutes.

The immediate priority of this Institute was to provide the impetus for the creation and filling of the following Academic Chairs, strengthening our partnerships with leading universities.

Rehabilitation Medicine - Monash University	Professor John Olver
Medicine - Monash University	Professor Richard Gerraty
Surgery - University of Melbourne	Professor Richard de Steiger

Simultaneous to the development of the medical Academic Chairs, Epworth has also initiated the following professorial appointments:

Nursing – Deakin University	Professor Mari Botti
Psychology – Monash University	Professor Jennie Ponsford
Health Information Management – RMIT University	Professor Nilmini Wickramasinghe

The appointment of further Academic Chairs is currently under consideration.
