Clinical Trials and Research Centre

To help facilitate high quality and effective research at Epworth, the Clinical Trials and Research Centre (CTRC) has been designed as a focal point for researchers to register trials and seek support.

The CTRC assists with the design, implementation and evaluation of Epworth research studies. This includes identifying new commercial and investigator-led studies, helping with submissions to the Human Research Ethics Committee, and preparing funding proposals.

All of the commercial clinical trials, and many investigator-led trials, are designed, supported and managed by experienced research coordinators located within the Centre.

On the education side, the CTRC is responsible for running forums, events and producing publications. The CTRC also plays an active role in the promotion of Epworth’s research outcomes and developments.

Research coordinators

The CTRC research coordinators are highly skilled health professionals who work closely with research investigators, sponsors and the Human Research Ethics Committee, and manage all aspects of a clinical trial including:

  • preparation of HREC applications and amendments
  • patient screening and recruitment
  • lodging adverse events
  • monitoring enrolled patients
  • assisting in trial audits
  • trial budgeting and reporting
  • consulting with research investigators across phases of a research trial.

The Centre’s research coordinators oversee study participants within many different environments, such as the acute hospital setting, consulting rooms, research areas, over the phone, or even a home visit for those participants who are unable to travel.

Research staff undertake continuous training and education courses to ensure compliance to the highest research and ethics standards, and communicate with study participants from all walks of life and age groups.
