The Epworth HealthCare library is freely accessible to all staff, visiting doctors, consultants and students on placement and provides a service to all Epworth HealthCare campuses.
The library at Epworth Richmond is well equipped for research and study and employs three professionally qualified staff to help with your enquiries. Other Campuses have access to the electronic library via the networked Intranet and hard copy resources are supplied via a courier service.
Facilities
Photocopying / Printing A photocopier is available in the library. There is a charge for personal copying. |
Scanning Facility A scanner is available for work-related use and appointments are preferred. |
Recreational Library A small collection of fiction and some non-fiction books is available for the use of patients and staff. The collection includes some large print books and is currently housed in the Epworth Rehabilitation Centre Level 2. Volunteers visit patients with a book trolley, usually two or three times per week. |
Study Facilities The library has 7 study carrels, and a study/tutorial room that may be used for study purposes, or discussion groups. It is preferable to book the study room and, in busy times, to book the study carrels. |
| Word Processing Any of the three PCs in the library may be used for word processing. Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel are available. Resources A/V Material Approximately 200 audiovisual resources are held in the library. Videos and CDs may be viewed in the library or borrowed for 3 days. A/V material may also be borrowed from other collections by arrangement with the librarian. |
Books/Reports The collection of approximately 3000 print items consists mainly, of medical, nursing and allied health texts; but also includes around 200 books on organisational management and related topics.
The library also offers access to a collection of almost 100 electronic books. These may be accessed from all campuses via the Library’s Intranet page |

| Journals The library currently subscribes to 110 print journals but houses around 300 print titles. Approximately 1000 full text electronic journals are also available via the Library’s Intranet page. A complete listing of the library’s holdings both print and electronic is available via the A-Z list under the Journals link on the Library’s intranet page. The majority of the journals cover medical, nursing and allied health topics. A small number deal with topics related to management. A journal contents bulletin, covering our print subscriptions is issued bi- weekly to enable staff and doctors to keep up to date with the current literature. The latest print journals received by the library are located on the journal display stand and the latest electronic journals may be browsed via the Intranet. |
Library Catalogue The library catalogue is networked and may be accessed via the hospital's Intranet You may search using a keyword from titles, authors or subjects. |

- AUSThealth is a collection of health related Australian databases:-
- CINAHL indexes English and non-English journals dealing with nursing and allied health issues, plus some medical journals. Items included in this database date from 1982 to the present.
- COCHRANE LIBRARY is a database which provides information to support the practice of evidence based medicine.
- EMBASE is the European equivalent of MEDLINE which includes MEDLINE references as well as 1600 titles unique to EMBASE
- eMIMs - electronic version of the Australian drug book MIMs (Available via desktop icon in library)
- eTG electronic version of Australian drug therapies handbooks, Therapeutic Guidelines (on CD-ROM)
- JOANNA BRIGGS INSTITUTE provides best practice information and systematic reviews based on the best evidence available in the areaeas of Nursing and Allied Health
- MD Consult offers you search results in full text, from journals books and clinics, or you may select to search just one of these resources
- MEDLINE (PubMED) indexes and abstracts English and non-English medical journals. The citations date from 1960s to the present.
- ProQuest DATABASES (Health & Medical Complete, ProQuest Nursing Journals, Proquest Psychology Journals)
- STANDARDS AUSTRALIA is a full text database of selected Australia Standards
- VICTORIAN ACTS AND REGULATIONS is a full text database of Victorian legislation.
Services
Bookshop
The Epworth Library Bookshop enables staff members to purchase personal copies of books without the inconvenience of travelling to bookshops. Urgent orders can often be delivered the same day. Order forms are available from the library
Contents Bulletin
Each week the library issues a journal contents bulletin which enables staff and doctors to keep up to date with the current literature.Copies of articles may be requested by completing a copyright declaration- print format or online via the Library’s Intranet page
Document Delivery
Almost any article you require may be obtained for you either from our substantial journal collection or via the library’s Inter Library Loans service. The library has access to resources both in Australia and overseas. Books may also be borrowed from other libraries via this service
Information Searches
Information searches may be requested by completing a search request form. These are available from the library or online via the Library’s Intranet page.
