Undergraduate Medical Training
Undergraduate medical training continues to expand at Epworth HealthCare, with third year medical students from The Alfred and Monash University rotating through Epworth hospitals. This builds on the existing rotations of final year medical students from the University of Melbourne and Monash University.
The clinical elective term allows students to explore a chosen medical or surgical discipline, in a setting different from that of their primary training. Clinical electives are supervised by specialists in a range of disciplines.
Students may have the opportunity to attend ward rounds, tutorials, lectures, operations, and to interview and examine patients (subject to variation according to the selected discipline).
The program is coordinated by the Director of Medical Education with the assistance of the Medical Student Coordinator and Epworth's Professors of Rehabilitation Medicine, Medicine and Surgery.
There is also the opportunity for students to undertake elective placements in a variety of specialities across Epworth HealthCare sites.

Applications
Students wishing to undertake an elective rotation at Epworth HealthCare should email the Medical Student Coordinator with details of what specialty they are interested in, preferred timeframe, a short CV and details of their university enrolment.
The Medical Student Coordinator is able to assist with:
- Liaison with students, tutors and stake-holders of Epworth campuses, Universities and Clinical Schools
- Establishment and organisation of clinical elective placements for medical students from Australia and overseas
- Hospital orientation
- Coordination of student exams, including recruitment of patients, preparation of examination lists, contacting examiners, preparation of timetables and supervision of candidates during the exam
- Quality of teaching and evaluations.
