Epworth Health Care treats more than 120,000 people each year at seven sites across a broad range of clinical disciplines that include oncology, cardio-vascular, obstetrics and gynaecology, rehabilitation, orthopaedics, intensive care medicine, neurology and gerontology.
These diverse patient groups allow for the development of a rich research program that creates opportunities for patients to be invited to participate in commercial or investigator-led clinical studies.
Research is the essential third pillar within Epworth HealthCare’s patient care strategy, that complements its exceptional clinical care and professional training and education. The newly formed Epworth Research Institute has harnessed the existing high quality research projects already established on the different sites within Epworth HealthCare, and provided an environment for the development of a co-ordinated and structured research program.
Investigator-led research can be expensive to run, and requires funding from many different sources to plan, implement and complete the projects within the timeframe.
