Teaching and Education

A strategic priority area for Epworth HealthCare is the evolution to a full teaching hospital with its own clinical school, along the lines of the highly regarded American private not-for-profit teaching hospitals such as the Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic. This initiative is strongly supported by Epworth's clinicians, Board, Executive and the Universities with which we are affiliated.

There are many benefits associated with being a full academic teaching hospital and these include:

  • Improving the quality of care for patients and outcomes
  • Educating and training current and future clinical workforce
  • Enhancing innovation and the introduction of state-of- the-art
    technology and treatment
  • Expanded research activities leading to improved patient treatments
  • Providing industry leadership through being a best-practice health care organisation.

Through the teaching hospital initiative, Epworth maintains a highly successful education programs for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical, allied health and nursing students, and General Practitioners, supported by senior specialist clinicians and clinical educators from across the group. Epworth is also committed to ongoing investment in staff training and development.
