General Medicine plays a vital role in the well being of many thousands of patients who may be suffering from debilitating or distressing conditions.  A wide range of acute and chronic medical problems are treated with advanced care, technology and services by multidisciplinary teams.

Epworth Eastern

This 30 bed multi-disciplinary Unit works uses an integrated team approach to ensure a high quality of patient care for acute and chronic medical patients across a range of specialties including:

 

  • Haematology

  • Nephrology

  • Paediatrics

  • Respiratory Medicine

  • Sleep Disorders

 

The Unit is backed by 24 hr medical emergency assistance from Epworth Easterns' Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Epworth Freemasons

The Medical Unit (Ward Ground East) at Epworth Freemasons is located on the Ground Floor and has 29 acute beds. Patients are admitted either directly to the unit or via the Emergency Department at Epworth Richmond.

 

The Medical Unit has an integrated team approach to ensure the highest quality of patient care across a range of specialties including:

 

  • Acute Medical

  • Cardiology

  • Endocrinology

  • Gastroenterology

  • Geriatric Medicine

  • Haematology

  • Nephrology

  • Neurology

  • Respiratory Medicine.

 

The Unit is staffed by a team of more than 30 including a Nurse Unit Manager, Associate Nurse Unit Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Nurse Facilitator, Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Patient Services Assistants.

 

We also have a dedicated Discharge and Aged Care Coordinator along with the Allied Health Team including Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work and Pastoral Care.

 

Patients often have complex care needs and require extensive discharge planning which may include increased home services, referral to Rehabilitation or ACAS assessment for Residential Care Placement.

 

We are committed to providing excellent patient-centred care to every patient. We encourage patients to be involved in their care with the use of our Care Boards and our Nursing Staff will ensure your comfort and well-being by assessing your needs at a minimum of every hour.

 

Epworth Freemasons supports the education and training for Junior Doctors, Nurses and Allied Health Staff. Our Doctors may have Medical Students and/or Registrars working with them who may be involved in your care. There are also undergraduate Nursing and Allied Health students on the ward.

Epworth Richmond

This 40 bed multi-disciplinary unit has an integrated team approach to ensure a high quality of patient care for acute and chronic medical patients. It comprises 40 beds in total, with provision of acute medical and transitional care in two areas, 3EB and 2ES.

 

The Medical Unit has an integrated team approach to ensure the highest quality of patient care across a range of specialties including:

 

  • Dermatology

  • Endocrinology

  • Geriatric Medicine

  • Haematology

  • Infectious Diseases

  • Nephrology

  • Paediatrics

  • Respiratory Medicine

  • Thoracic Medicine

 

The Unit is backed by 24 hr hospital medical cover.
