Occupational Therapists aim to maximise a patient’s function and safety, and wherever possible, facilitate return to a person’s previous level of function. Activities of daily living include personal care, domestic and community tasks, leisure, work and driving.
Services include:
- Assessment of patients’ ability to complete relevant daily activities (personal care, domestic and community activities)
- Teaching techniques to maximise independence in daily tasks
- Prescription of aids and equipment to maximise independence
- Home assessment to evaluate access, safety and independence in the home
- Providing advice regarding home modifications and equipment
- Discharge planning
- Scar management
- Manufacture and prescription of hand and arm splints
- Co-ordination of return to work programs and vocational counselling (for Epworth Rehabilitation clients)
- Driver rehabilitation programme
