Allied health

Professionals in the fields of physiotherapy, speech pathology, occupational therapy, psychology, social work and dietetics are employed at Epworth.

Dietetics

Our dietetics team provide a comprehensive range of nutritional services to inpatients and outpatients, as well as educational support a patient's family and carers. Dietitians are available to consult about nutrition, including assessment, recommendations for nutritional management, implementation of therapeutic diets and nutrition support, nutritional counselling and education.

For inpatients, we focus on optimising your health, nutritional status and quality of life, working closely with our food services teams to meet your nutritional needs.

Occupational therapy

Our occupational therapists aim to maximise your function and safety. They will aim to facilitate your return to your previous level of function.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists and exercise physiologists use exercise prescription to maximise your potential and assist your return to the community as near to functioning at pre-existing physical levels as possible. Customised programs are provided as inpatient and outpatient services.

Psychology

Our psychologists work with inpatients, outpatients and people living in the community. The psychology team is comprised of both neuropsychologists and clinical psychologists.

Our psychologists are mainly involved with those receiving rehabilitation following work or motor vehicle accidents or who have experienced stroke or other neurological impairment.

Social work

Social workers are available in the acute and rehabilitation areas of our hospitals. Social workers assess the impact of the change in health status on a patient and their family. This assessment enables our treating team to plan and organise your care and discharge based on your individual social needs. We focus on providing family support and community integration.

Speech pathology

Our speech pathology team are involved in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of a range of communication, cognitive and swallowing impairments. Our team provides specialist services to maximise the recovery and well-being of people with difficulties arising from a variety of neurological impairments and medical conditions.

Acquired brain injury rehabilitation

Our speech pathologists also specialise in facilitating recovery following acquired brain injuries. This care involves a holistic team approach comprising medical, nursing and allied health professionals, who will assist you to return to activities such as daily tasks, work, study, socialising and eating and drinking.

Outpatient Rehabilitation reception, the hydrotherapy pool and outpatient gym are located on Level LG. Inpatient ward, gym and therapy areas are located on level 4.
