Key facts:

  • Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition. Symptoms include period pain, pelvic pain and fatigue.
  • The Julia Argyrou Endometriosis Centre at Epworth is dedicated to improvement, diagnosis and treatment and ultimately, a cure.

To listen, support and help you navigate endometriosis – that’s Nikki Campbell’s promise. As the first Endometriosis Nurse Coordinator in Victoria, Nikki’s role at the Julia Argyrou Endometriosis Centre at Epworth is part of our commitment to provide outstanding care for people with endometriosis.

“It's a huge privilege,” Nikki says.

“It's awesome to be working for an organisation that has put this at the forefront, leading the way in Victoria and in Australia for endometriosis management.”

Nikki is the first point of contact at the centre, helping each patient feel confident about their care, whether it’s about symptoms or pain management and treatment options.

“It’s exciting because this is recognised as a gap for endometriosis patients. Endometriosis patients make up one in nine people assigned female at birth - that's as many as diabetes and asthma in Australia. The need for better, more personalised support is there.”

“Every day, I receive emails through the centre website from people who are desperately looking for support. The messages say things like, ‘I've just come across this centre and help me!’ So, that's exactly what we're here for.”

Nikki’s stand-out moments

In just a few short months, Nikki has already made an impact with Epworth endometriosis patients. Each starts at the centre with a one-on-one nursing review so they can receive personalised care based on their needs.

“What stands out is that many people already have an endometriosis diagnosis, but they feel like their symptoms are dismissed or they are not being heard. They haven’t been able to get answers to their questions,” Nikki says. “They feel stuck in their situation, while struggling with their symptoms.”

“Our centre instils hope.”

Nikki brings positivity and drive for meaningful change to every patient interaction. She joins an expert team, led by Centre Director, Dr Kate Tyson, who are dedicated to achieving better outcomes for people with endometriosis.
