Breast Friends is a support group open to all women under 45 years of age who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Given the comprehensive nature of this service, please allow up to four hours to complete your appointment.

We offer:

  • Advice on breast self-examination and care
  • Assessment of any breast related symptom (lump, pain, nipple discharge etc)
  • Biopsy, usually available on the same day or within 48 hours
  • Breast surgeon assessment, usually available on the same day
  • Clinical breast examination
  • Comprehensive and personalised breast cancer risk assessment
  • Detailed assessment of your symptoms
  • Discussion of your results on the same day
  • Investigations as appropriate for your needs (mammogram, ultrasound)
  • Mammography with 3D tomosynthesis technology and other radiology techniques, conducted on site by our experienced radiology team
  • Plan any future treatment (if needed)
  • Routine breast examination and screening for asymptomatic women with average risk and high risk of breast cancer (family history)

Fees

The cost of your breast health consultation will depend on the services required. Fees are covered partly by Medicare. Please speak to our team for further information about our fees when you call to book an appointment.

The Breast Service at Epworth Richmond offers:

  • Access to a Breast Care nurse at the initial visit and throughout the entire patient journey
  • Advice, screening and surveillance for women with an increased risk of developing breast cancer (e.g. family history)
  • Evaluation of all symptomatic breast problems in both men and women, with rapid access to a specialist breast surgeon with an emphasis on accurate and timely diagnosis
  • Expert second opinions
  • Immediate access to a full diagnostic work up including breast imaging (mammography/ultrasound) and pathology (fine needle aspiration/core biopsy) as required, with rapid provision of results
  • Medical and Radiation Oncology services for both consultation and treatment, with both chemotherapy and radiotherapy administered on site
  • On site specialist breast plastic surgical service for immediate or delayed breast reconstruction
  • Post hospital discharge support arranged by our breast care nurse
  • Provision of a full range of all treatment modalities, with care delivered by a multidisciplinary team in accordance with agreed clinical guidelines, emphasising compliance with evidence-based practice. We aim to provide an integrated approach to breast care in which medical and allied health professionals consider all relevant treatment options and, together with the patient, collaboratively develop an individual treatment plan for each patient through our regularly held multidisciplinary meetings
