In an emergency always call 000 first.


A gantry is in place while construction of a new emergency department occurs. Access to the emergency department is shared with Ambulance Victoria; follow the signposts in the area.


Arriving by car

Cars may be brought to the entrance of the emergency department, where there is a five-minute parking limit for drop-offs.


Parking is available in adjacent streets or in the hospital car park which you enter from 89 Bridge Road. The car park is open every day from 6am to 10.45pm.


Parking at Epworth Richmond

A discounted parking pass is available for patients attending Epworth’s emergency department.


The pass provides a $20 flat fee for all-day parking at Epworth Richmond's Bridge Road car park (24 hours from the time you enter the car park).


The pass is only valid on the day you are in the emergency department and only one pass per patient is provided. Passes are for patients or their immediate carer, subject to car park availability. Standard parking rates apply for visitors. Please ask our receptionist for further details when you arrive.

Arriving by ambulance


As a private patient, you are entitled to ask the ambulance to take you to the hospital of your choice. However, Ambulance staff can decide at their discretion whether they can accommodate your request.


Arriving by public transport



If you are coming to Epworth Richmond from the city by tram catch tram 48 towards North Balwyn from Collins Street or tram 75 towards East Burwood from Flinders Street and get off at tram stop number 15 (Epworth Hospital) on Bridge Road. The emergency department is located in the new Lee Wing, in Erin Street.



By train the closest station to Epworth Richmond is West Richmond station which is on the South Morang and Hurstbridge Lines and is a five-minute walk from Erin Street. Richmond station on Swan Street is a 15-minute walk away.



The 246 bus runs from Elsternwick to Clifton Hill via St Kilda, travelling along Punt Road and stopping at Rowena Parade, which is a ten-minute walk to Epworth Richmond hospital.


If entering the hospital from Bridge Road, proceed to level 2 and follow the signage to the emergency department.


What to bring

If possible, bringing along the following items will help staff facilitate your visit to the emergency department:

  • ID (e.g.: driver’s licence)
  • Private health insurance card
  • Pension card
  • Healthcare card
  • Veterans Affairs ID
  • ID of refugee status
  • Letters from your GP or other healthcare providers which could be relevant to your treatment
  • Current medications or prescriptions
