Medical Advisory Committees

Each clinical division of Epworth HealthCare has its own Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), comprising of leading clinicians appointed by their peers. These committees advise Epworth on matters involving credentialing, clinical care, research and operational matters.

Medical Advisory Committees (MACs) are based at Epworth Freemasons, Epworth Eastern, Epworth Geelong, Epworth Rehabilitation (including Epworth Brighton, Epworth Camberwell, Epworth Hawthorn and Epworth Richmond Rehabilitation) and Epworth Richmond.

A Group Medical Advisory Council (GMAC) is made up of representatives from each of the divisional MACs.

The GMAC, a sub-committee of the Epworth Board of Management, and its functions are prescribed by the Epworth Foundation By-Laws on medical appointments to practice, clinical governance and other matters relating to clinical care and management.

MACs and the GMAC focus on a number of different areas including:

advising on medical workforce plans
quality of care and referral of matters to relevant Clinical Institutes, where appropriate, for consideration and feedback
medical engagement and satisfaction
strategic and operational development of Epworth from a medical perspective, including approval of new interventional procedures for Tier C.
