A private hospital in Box Hill wants to recruit Chinese-speaking volunteers to help translate for patients who don't speak much English.

Epworth Eastern is looking for Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking concierge volunteers. They need people who are friendly, helpful and, of course, bilingual.

The role is for people who are suited to customer service, helping patients and their families access hospital services and facilities.

You'll be tasked with providing assistance for basic admission, as well as helping visitors with doctor information, plus monitoring parking and front door traffic flow.

The hospital will need you to provide a six-month commitment ad be prepared to work a minimum of one four-hour shift a week.

The recruitment of concierge volunteers to Epworth Eastern is part of Epworth HealthCare's broader volunteer program.

About 250 volunteers currently help patients and visitors across Epworth sites.

Epworth's volunteer program manager Belinda Howard said the translators would have access to the organisation's comprehensive training and orientation program.

"Staff will work closely with volunteers to ensure they're prepared for their roles and that the experience is interesting, diverse and enriching for those involved," she said.

"Our volunteer team is a group of motivated and committed individuals who are dedicated to the overarching goal of enhancing patient care.

"It's so wonderful to see our community members give back. I don't think they realise just how their incredible contributions really make a difference to the overall patient experience."
