We understand that having a loved one in intensive care can be a stressful time. Our team is here for relatives and friends, as well as the patient, for support and information.

The Intensive Care Unit at Epworth Eastern is an accredited level 3, 8-bed unit equipped to provide critical care services for conditions relating to all adult specialties. The Unit is supported by full-time medical fellows and consultant cover.

The facilities include management of:

  • Intra-aortic balloon pump counterpulsation
  • Invasive & non-invasive monitoring
  • Renal replacement therapies (CVVHD)
  • Ventilation

Epworth Freemasons Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is an accredited level 2, 8-bed Unit.

We provide support to the wider hospital, which includes:

  • Comprehensive cancer care for people with complex oncology and haematological conditions
  • Specialized surgical services including robotic assisted surgery and orthopaedics
  • Care of Maternity patients
  • Monitoring of cardiac conditions

The Unit treats over 1,200 patients annually and is supported by full-time ICU medical fellows, Consultant cover, ICU Director and Nurse Unit Manager. The department provides an ICU Liaison Outreach Service catering for the hospitals deteriorating patients as well as transitioning patients care from ICU to the wards. The ICU is supported by an ICU educator and offers a ‘Transition to Specialty Practice’ and Post-Graduate training in the principles of Critical Care Nursing through Deakin University

Our state-of-the-art facility is modern, bright and open. All our rooms are single rooms, with the ability to offer negative or positive isolation in two rooms.

The Epworth Geelong ICU provides level 3 care supporting post-surgical patients, admissions through emergency and external transfers. The ICU currently has 8 beds, with the capacity to expand to 12 in future.

ICU is located on Level 2 and accessible via Lift B only.

Epworth Geelong ICU capabilities include:

  • Complex multi-system life support for indefinite periods of time
  • Extracorporeal renal support services
  • Invasive cardiovascular monitoring
  • Mechanical ventilation

The Epworth Richmond ICU is an accredited level 3, 26-bed unit equipped to provide care for critically ill patients in all adult specialties. We continue to provide care for over 2500 patients every year.

This state of the art facility is the largest not-for profit Private Hospital ICU in the Southern Hemisphere providing care for the following specialties;

  • Cardiac Surgery
  • Neuro/Neurosurgery
  • Complex Respiratory Cases
  • Multi-Organ Dysfunction
  • Oncology
  • Cardiology
  • Sepsis
  • Renal Failure
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Orthopedic
  • Thoracic and General Medicine

The department also provides a 24hr ICU Liaison Outreach Service catering for the hospitals deteriorating patients as well as transitioning patients from ICU to the wards. In 2018 we responded to over 4500 Medical Emergency Team calls.

The Epworth Richmond ICU has a large focus on research and has been involved in a number of multi-centered studies, and quality presentations. The unit is supported by a full time research coordinator.

The Unit is supported by full-time ICU Registrars, Consultant cover, ICU Director and Nurse Unit Manager. It offers a successful training program for Intensive Care Medical Staff under the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), as well as Post-Graduate Training for Nursing Staff through Deakin University.
