Epworth Geelong and Deakin University are working in partnership to provide education programs for medical, nursing, allied health and medical imaging students and staff.
This joint initiative is based on international models by leading US not-for-profit hospitals, such as Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic, which show that improved patient outcomes are achieved within a teaching hospital setting.
Combining Epworth's renowned high-quality health services with Deakin University's training and research will ensure students and staff have access to the latest medical knowledge and career development opportunities. It also ensures patients have access to medical professionals who have the best understanding of how to provide their care.
A direct pathway links Deakin University Waurn Ponds to Epworth Geelong's education precinct, which complements services and facilities within the university, including the Regional Community Health Hub (REACH) building and Faculty of Health.
Government support for Epworth's leading education precinct
The Australian Government's Department of Health contributed $5.5 million through its Innovative Clinical Teaching and Training Grants Program to build an education precinct to support clinical training and placements at Epworth Geelong.
