About
Gareth is a consultant at The Royal Melbourne Hospital where he is one of only two cardiologists in Victoria accredited to extract pacemakers and defibrillators. Gareth has a keen interest in the management of heart rhythm disorders. He is a European Heart Rhythm Association Certified Electrophysiology (EP) Specialist, performing EP studies and ablations as well as implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, including biventricular and subcutaneous devices. He is one of only a very small number of cardiologists in Australia performing venoplasty for device related venous stenosis/occlusion.
Gareth moved to Australia from the UK in 2015, having completed a Doctor of Medicine (Research) degree into Atrial Fibrillation at Imperial College London, ranked one of the top ten universities in the world. He completed specialist Cardiology and Electrophysiology training at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, at the time the largest single site cardiovascular centre in Europe. Gareth has an interest in patient-centred clinical research, especially in atrial fibrillation and his research is cited in current international guidelines. His research won him the British Heart Rhythm Society's Young Investigator Award, as well as awards from the British Cardiovascular Society and British Heart Foundation.
