Dr Iniyaval (Ini) Thevathasan is a maternal fetal medicine subspecialist obstetrician based in Melbourne, and currently holds a public appointment at The Royal Women's Hospital. Dr Ini cares for women who have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss, provides a pre-pregnancy counselling service, is involved in the prevention of pre-term birth & cares for women with multiple pregnancies. She also has a special interest in the impact of inflammatory bowel disease on pregnancy and has an honourary position at the pregnancy inflammatory bowel disease clinic at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She also performs tertiary level obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound. Ini strongly believes in patient-centered and inclusive care, practicing evidence based medicine so that women can co an informed decision about their pregnancy. She is interested in researching the impact of antenatal corticosteroids, used for fetal lung maturation, particularly on women with pre-existing diabetes. Ini is also fluent in Tamil and comfortable providing care in this language. During her spare time, Ini enjoys reading, trying out new recipes, travelling and spending time with her cheeky golden retriever, Birdie.
