About

Shami completed specialist medical training at the Royal Women's Hospital Melbourne and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). She obtained a two year Advanced Laparoscopic Gynaecology fellowship at the Royal Women's Hospital, awarded by the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery Society (AGES). She was awarded the position of Senior Clinical Fellow and completed a fellowship in Endometriosis and Advanced Minimal Access Surgery at Oxford University Hospital, UK's largest endometriosis referral Centre. Shami has concentrated on the management of extra pelvic and bowel endometriosis, working with International endometriosis expert, Prof Horace Roman. Shami is compassionate in her approach and focuses on delivering practical, holistic, and up-to-date care. She specialises in performing hysteroscopic surgery, open surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery. Her academic interests include researching the areas of endometriosis, fibroids and Laparoscopic surgery. She is a principal researcher in multiple randomised controlled trials and is currently completing a Master's in Clinical Trials through the University of London. Shami's areas of special interest are complex endometriosis, bowel endometriosis, complex fibroid disease and pelvic pain.

Shami is an affiliated gynaecologist with the Julia Argyrou Endometriosis Centre at Epworth.
