What if I don’t have private health insurance?

If you do need any further investigations or appointments, our specialists can refer you within Epworth or to a public hospital. It is your health. It is your choice.

What can I expect at my appointment?

You should schedule your colposcopy during a time when you don’t have your period and if you need to reschedule your appointment, please contact our team.

The procedure itself feels a lot like a cervical screening test. A colposcope is a microscope which will be placed at the entrance to your vagina so that your specialist can examine your cervix in more detail and to identify any areas of concern.

If required, they might also perform a biopsy where a few millimetres of tissue will be removed from your cervix and sent to a laboratory for analysis.

What happens after my colposcopy?

You are safe to continue with your day. If you have had a biopsy, you will need to avoid certain activities for a few days, as guided by your specialist.
