Epworth Rehabilitation provides assessment for, and rehabilitation following, osseointegration through the amputee rehabilitation program.

Osseointegration is a type of limb replacement for amputees where the artificial limb (prosthesis) is connected to a metal implant directly attached to the bone.

Osseointegration (OPRA Implant System) can be utilised for amputations above the knee (transfemoral), above the elbow (transhumeral) and of the fingers and thumbs.

Epworth Hawthorn specialises in the rehabilitation for long bone osseointegration.

About the OPRA system

The OPRA osseointegration system consists of an implant (the titanium part that anchors to the bone)  and an abutment (the connection).

The prosthesis attaches to the abutment by a simple to use connector.

Benefits

Osseointegration, allows an amputee to have a direct connection between their bone and their prosthesis.

Osseointegration eliminates the need for a socket, preventing the common problems of skin disorders and stump soreness.

For a transfemoral amputee, the Integrum OPRA system enables improved sitting comfort, walking ability, simplified attachment and detachment, along with improved quality of life when compared to conventional prostheses.
