Situated in Box Hill in Melbourne’s eastern corridor, Epworth Eastern is a leading hospital with 223 beds, an 18 bed level 3 critical care unit, a 24 bed cardiac unit, and over 75% private rooms. Its principle focus is on cardiac, vascular, orthopaedic and general surgery, oncology, urology and endoscopy services.
 
Epworth Eastern maintains state of the art equipment and technology, including a da Vinci robotic operating system, digital operating suites, a computerised medication administration system and operates in a fully wireless environment.

Epworth Eastern has eight operating theatres with a day surgery/DOSA area, two endoscopy theatres, and a cardiac and vascular interventional catheter lab.  Supported by the latest technology, the procedural areas provide the latest in medical care for a wide range of procedures and specialties.

Public transport


By tram take the 109 and get off at stop 57. Epworth Eastern is a short walk from the tram stop.
 
The closest train station to Epworth Eastern is Box Hill Central, which is on the Belgrave/Lilydale line. Epworth Eastern is approximately 10 minutes walk from the train station.



Parking


Epworth Eastern has undercover parking available on site every day. The entrance to the car park is on Arnold Street.


Parking rates can be found to the right. A weekly pass is available for $75. Lost tickets incur a fee of $60.


Parking is also available in adjacent streets, but please take note of council restrictions.

Pick up and drop off


Patients may be dropped off at the Arnold Street hospital entrance.
 
Cars can wait at this entrance for a maximum of five minutes and preferably should remain attended at all times. Wheelchairs can be obtained from main reception.

Accommodation

 

Epworth Eastern has been designed to provide the highest quality facilities for patients and visitors. The hospital features lots of natural light and provides over 75% private rooms. Private ensuites are provided in each patient room.

 

Patients can access a touch screen entertainment system during their hospital stay, which can include free to air television, Foxtel, radio, movies, audio books, internet and email. To purchase an entertainment package of your choice, speak to patient admissions on arrival.



Internet access


Epworth Eastern provides internet access for patients via wireless in selected areas of the hospital. For further information refer to the patient compendium in your room.



Meals


Our catering department offers an eight day cyclical menu with a variety of fresh cooked meals daily. We work closely with our nutrition department to provide you with the best balanced meals to enhance your speedy recovery.

 

Menu monitors visit patients every day to help you make menu selections from a menu brochure located at each bedside. The monitors are available from 8am – 4.30pm, seven days a week.

 

Epworth Eastern has developed a food safety program that conforms to HACCP government legislation to ensure that food prepared and cooked for patients is of the highest standard.

Telephone

 

Each bed has its own telephone. Please ask your nurse or ward receptionist to assist you in locating your direct telephone number.

 

STD/mobile/international calls can be made by purchasing a phone card, available from reception on level 1. Special telephones are available for patients with impaired vision or hearing, or for patients who are unable to hold a hand piece.

Visiting hours


Visitors are welcome between the times below, seven days a week.

 

Level 2:

10am - 2.30pm  and  4.30pm - 8pm

Level 4 South: 10am - 2pm  and  3.30pm - 8pm
Level 4 North and Level 5: 10am - 1pm  and  2pm - 8pm
Intensive care unit (ICU): 10am - 3.30pm  and  5pm - 8pm
 

Long visits may tire patients, so please show consideration and stay for short periods only. We also ask that visitors are considerate of other patients and keep noise levels low when visiting, and supervise children at all times.

In the interest of all patients, if you feel unwell or know you have a cold or flu please refrain from visiting until your health improves. Please encourage others to take similar protective measures.


 

Refreshments and meals



Hudsons Coffee is located on the ground floor / level 1 of Epworth Eastern. It offers hot and cold drinks, snacks and light meals. Newspapers and magazines are also available. Hot meals are available in the adjoining bistro at lunchtime from 11.30am – 2pm.

  

Monday to Friday:

6.30am - 6pm

Saturday:
8am - 4pm
Sunday:     9am - 4pm
 

Soft drink and snack vending machines are available on level 1 (street level).
Box Hill shopping and dining is a short walk away, and the Box Hill R.S.L. is just across Nelson Road, next to the park.



Pharmacy

 

Slade Pharmacy at Epworth Eastern offers comprehensive services to both visitors and patients.


Monday to Friday:

8.00am - 6.00pm

Saturday: 8.00am - 3.00pm
Sunday:   9.00am - 12.00pm
 

The pharmacy supplies prescriptions, over the counter pharmaceuticals and a range of nutritional and home healthcare products. Pharmacy staff are available to counsel patients on the correct use of drugs.

Volunteering


Epworth HealthCare runs a volunteer program which provides support to all of our hospitals. Volunteers actively assist in the delivery of patient care through tasks ranging from directing visitors and delivering mail to admin support and keeping patients company.
