Epworth Freemasons operates on two sites in East Melbourne—Clarendon Street and Victoria Parade. Facilities include 224 overnight beds, 44 post-natal suites, nine fully-equipped delivery suites, a special care nursery, 10 operating theatres, a day procedure centre and an eight-bed critical care unit.


As well as being one of Victoria's best maternity hospitals, Epworth Freemasons specialises in women’s and related health services including breast and gynaecological surgery.


Epworth Freemasons also offers comprehensive cancer care, and a full range of surgical services, including robotic-assisted surgery.



Clarendon Street Operating Suite


The operating suite at the Epworth Freemasons’ Clarendon Street campus has six theatres and a twelve bay post-anaesthetic Care Unit. The latest da Vinci Si dual console surgical robot was installed in the newest theatre in mid-2011.

Day Procedure Centre


Epworth Freemasons' Victoria Parade Medical Centre has a day procedure centre, with four operating theatres, an endoscopy room and a 22-bay recovery room. The day procedure centre is one of the largest and busiest of its kind in Melbourne.




Public Transport

Take either tram number 109 or 42 or the number 34 tram and hop off at stop 15 on Victoria Parade. Alternatively, take tram number 48 or 75 and hop off at stop 11 on Wellington Parade.


By train: alight at either Jolimont/MCG station or Parliament Station.


From Jolimont/MCG: Epworth Freemasons is a five-minute walk up Clarendon Street.


From Parliament: it is a 10–15 minute walk through Fitzroy Gardens.
















Epworth Freemasons is well-served by metered parking in the surrounding streets. Please note that strict time restrictions apply.


There is metered parking along Albert Street (opposite Fitzroy Gardens) and Victoria Parade (directly opposite the Medical Centre) at very affordable rates. No restrictions apply after 6.30pm.


Undercover parking at competitive commercial rates is located under the Epworth Freemason Medical Centre Building on Victoria Parade. For the collection of patients, there is 15 minute (designated ‘patient pick-up’ area) available on Level 1 of the car park. There is metered parking in Victoria Parade and surrounding streets.


There are 15 and 30-minute limits immediately outside the hospital on Clarendon Street.


Pick Up and Drop Off


Clarendon Street

Patients can enter Epworth Freemasons via the main entrance on Clarendon Street, which provides wheelchair access. There is a 15-minute parking area directly outside the main entrance and metered parking ranging from one to eight hours in the surrounding streets.Strict time restrictions do apply and patients and their relatives are advised to adhere to the restrictions at all times. If possible, you should arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to hospital.


Victoria Parade

Patients can enter the Medical Centre via the main entrance in Victoria Parade or via the western entrance for wheelchair access. A 15 minute free parking area is available on Level 1 of the car park for the collection of day procedure patients.


Please note that day procedure patients will not be permitted to drive themselves home.





Epworth Freemasons provides both private and shared room accommodation. There may be occasions where we are unable to accommodate your requests however we will endeavour to meet your needs as quickly as possible. Please speak with your nurse if your preference is for a private room. All rooms have a television and telephone.


Internet Access


Wireless internet access is available for patients in the Maternity Unit. Please refer to the bedside compendium in your room for further information.




Epworth Freemasons has an excellent reputation for the variety, presentation and nutritional quality of our meals. The Dietitian and Food Services department work together to cater for the special dietary needs of our patients.


We have a large range of special diets available to meet our patients’ individual nutritional needs and for those wishing to observe religious, cultural or personal principles.


Our Clarendon Street campus offers a seven-day cyclical menu with a wide variety of choices. Our Victoria Parade campus, which caters for our maternity patients, has an a la carte menu which also offers ‘Chef Specials’ each day. Meals are also available for the patient’s partner. Both styles of menu provide excellent choice, nutritional value and flavour.


We provide our patients with a choice of meals that are cooked fresh in our kitchens using local quality ingredients. We also offer a morning tea, afternoon tea and supper.


Our menu monitors visit the wards numerous times per day to deliver and collect patient menus but are also available to assist patients with their meal selection. A dietitian is also available for those requiring further assistance or education to help them meet their individual nutritional requirements.

Incoming mail is sorted each morning and is delivered to each ward. For outgoing mail there is a mailbox at the reception desk that is cleared daily.




Each bed has its own telephone, enabling your family and friends to dial you directly. Please ask your nurse or ward receptionist to assist you in locating your direct telephone number.


Local calls can be made at any time and are free of charge. STD calls can also be made from your room, but will be charged to your account. International calls are only available through the switchboard between 8.00am and 9.30pm daily and will also be charged to your account.

Long visits may tire patients, so please show consideration and stay for short periods only. We also ask that visitors are considerate of other patients and keep noise levels low when visiting, and supervise children at all times. Unwell visitors or children should refrain from visiting.

At Epworth Freemasons volunteers get involved in many ways, particularly with ward visiting, specialised volunteering in Day Oncology, customer service at the Victoria Parade site and volunteer gardeners help to make the courtyard an oasis of calm at the Clarendon Street site. Health Information Services and administration areas also appreciate volunteer assistance.


Every volunteer helps patients and visitors feel more comfortable and relaxed during their hospital visit. Volunteers undergo full training and orientation prior to starting and people in the departments where they work are also given advice on the partnership of working with volunteers.
