Completion of this Introduction to Specialty program provides a priority pathway to undertake postgraduate study in perioperative specialties and the opportunity to apply for a targeted Epworth scholarship.

Epworth HealthCare offers two distinct entry pathways into the perioperative environment:

Perioperative Graduate Support Program – This program is designed for graduate nurses seeking structured support and development as they begin their perioperative nursing careers.
Introduction to Specialty Practice (ISP) Program – This program provides a comprehensive introduction for nurses transitioning into the perioperative specialty from other clinical areas.

This 12-month introductory program enables you to grow, develop and succeed by enhancing your nursing practice in the specialty of perioperative nursing.

Entry requirements

Current registered nurses with AHPRA.
Permanent resident or Australian citizen
Completed a graduate year by the commencement of the program.

Duration

12-month program
Minimum 0.6 to full time.

Program structure

Delivered in a blended learning method, with a combination of self-directed online learning and classroom-based learning
Four study days covering specific theoretical and practical perioperative nursing requirements

Learning content

The ISP program consists of three full-day study sessions covering the following as well as online modules:

Comprehensive orientation program
Self-directed modules can be used to develop your professional, academic and personal skills
Professional development is assessed through the completion of clinical hurdles.
You will be supported, guided and coached throughout the program by the Perioperative Educators.

Applications

Expressions of Interest via internal process, or via smart recruiter in May each year. The program will commence in July.

Pathway to further study

Those who successfully complete this program will enter into the priority pathway for postgraduate studies through our university partner. This pathway is supported by Epworth’s Targeted Scholarships offered through the Epworth Medical Foundation.
