This 12-month transition program is designed for registered nurses currently working in the speciality of oncology or who wish to pursue this as a speciality, providing the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skill and confidence in cancer care nursing practice.
Entry requirements
- Applicants must be working in a clinical unit at Epworth HealthCare
- Completed a graduate year by the commencement of this program.
Duration
- Two program intakes, commencing January and July each year
- 12-month program
- Permanent contract, minimum 0.6 to full time.
Program structure
- Delivered in a blended learning method, with a combination of self-directed online learning and classroom-based learning
- Five study days, taught utilising; case studies, group work and clinical simulation
Learning content
- Oncology specialty specific content delivered through online modules and structured face to face learning
- Additional self-directed modules can be used to develop your professional, academic and clinical skills
- This program includes pre and post learning content to facilitate optimal learning and translation of theory to practice
- Professional development is assessed through the completion of clinical hurdles and formative and summative appraisals
- You will be supported, guided and coached throughout the program by the Cancer Care Education team.
- No pre-learning is required for this program

Expressions of Interest open in April and November each year via an internal application process.
Pathway to further study
Those who successfully complete this program will enter into the priority pathway for postgraduate studies through our university partner. This pathway is supported by Epworth’s Targeted Scholarships offered through the Epworth Medical Foundation.
