The Medical Unit (Ward Ground East) at Epworth Freemasons is located on the Ground Floor and has 29 acute beds. Patients are admitted either directly to the unit or via the Emergency Department at Epworth Richmond.
The Medical Unit has an integrated team approach to ensure the highest quality of patient care across a range of specialties including:
Acute Medical
Cardiology
Endocrinology
Gastroenterology
Geriatric Medicine
Haematology
Nephrology
Neurology
Respiratory Medicine.
The Unit is staffed by a team of more than 30 including a Nurse Unit Manager, Associate Nurse Unit Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Nurse Facilitator, Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Patient Services Assistants.
We also have a dedicated Discharge and Aged Care Coordinator along with the Allied Health Team including Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work and Pastoral Care.
Patients often have complex care needs and require extensive discharge planning which may include increased home services, referral to Rehabilitation or ACAS assessment for Residential Care Placement.
We are committed to providing excellent patient-centred care to every patient. We encourage patients to be involved in their care with the use of our Care Boards and our Nursing Staff will ensure your comfort and well-being by assessing your needs at a minimum of every hour.
Epworth Freemasons supports the education and training for Junior Doctors, Nurses and Allied Health Staff. Our Doctors may have Medical Students and/or Registrars working with them who may be involved in your care. There are also undergraduate Nursing and Allied Health students on the ward.
The Medical Unit is backed by 24hr Medical Emergency assistance from Epworth Freemasons' Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
