Program: Revision of the ALS algorithm. Simulation-based case studies with debriefing.
Overview
This 3-hour workshop is for Consultant Medical staff who have previously had experience with Adult Advanced Life Support and wish to update their training, confidence and competencies. Instructors are accredited ALS instructors, and the course has CPD accreditation with ANZCA, CICM and ACEM. The workshop covers team leadership, role allocation and communication skills, and a simulation-based practical component according to the ARC ALS guidelines. The course is conducted in a safe, non-threatening environment by simulation educators and ALS instructors.
Prior to attending the workshop, participants will be asked to read the ALS learning package and complete the pre-course questionnaire – these are available on the intranet in the Library resource guide section. We request that participants print out and complete the pre-course questionnaire prior to the workshop. This will be reviewed at the beginning of the session. The workshop will involve skill stations and simulated scenarios.
Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this workshop, participants will have:
- Revised the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) ALS algorith
- Discussed the principles of Crisis Resource Management (CRM)
- Demonstrated effective management of a cardiac arrest in a simulated environment
- Demonstrated a working knowledge of the required roles and responsibilities in a simulated cardiac arrest
