Expressions of interest are sought from Registered Nurses, interested in taking the first steps in their career as a Midwife, through our Introduction to Specialty Practice program (ISP).

Joining our amazing team of midwives to extend your professional skills and knowledge within the specialist field of midwifery, you will be supported, guided and coached throughout the program by dedicated Clinical Midwifery Educators and the broader Maternity team.

By undertaking the training program, you will demonstrate competency and basic theoretical knowledge to safely deliver maternity care to women and their babies following both normal vaginal, instrumental and caesarean section birth. It is expected that RNs will work alongside midwives and the leadership team and will practice within their scope as an RN with basic postnatal maternity training.

This position is a minimum of 0.6 EFT secondment position.

Candidates who successfully complete this program will be prioritised for a supported postgraduate course in Midwifery.

Eligible applicants must have:

  • Minimum two years of acute clinical nursing experience following your graduate program.
  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration.

ISP – Perioperative

Epworth Healthcare supports new and existing Registered Nurses or IV Endorsed Enrolled Nurses to enter into the specialised area of perioperative nursing, with the peri-operative Introduction to Specialty practice program.

Utilising a blended learning strategy, there are four study days facilitated by the perioperative clinical educators which meet the specific theoretical and practical perioperative nursing requirements.  Furthermore, the program includes pre-reading elements, as well as online study to facilitate optimal learning. 

Participants also have access to guided supervision and support from their clinical educators and preceptors during their time within the theatre environment, ensuring 1:1 support when required.

  • Epworth Eastern
  • Epworth Freemasons
  • Epworth Geelong

The two specialty streams of study offered are:

  • Anaesthetics and recovery
  • Intraoperative nursing (scrub nurse and scout nurse)

Eligible applicants must have

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or an IV Endorsed Enrolled Nurse
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency
  • 12 months acute nursing experience post registration
