About
Born in the Scotland, Karen came to Melbourne as a child, but she hasn't completely lost her accent. As an obstetrician, Karen is dedicated to providing the best obstetric care for her patients, and believes in patient autonomy. She often says your body, your baby, your choice. As a mother of two primary school aged children who were born with the help of IVF, Karen is able to share practical tips from her own experiences of pregnancy and birth, as well as share her experience of parenting.Karen obtained her medical degree from the University of Melbourne in 1996, and then completed most of her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Mercy Hospital for Women before pursuing further experience in high-risk obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine and ultrasound at the Royal Women's Hospital. She has been in private practice for over 10 years now.Karen has a special interest in high-risk pregnancies and pregnancies achieved with the help of IVF or other fertility treatments, and is delighted to look after all types of families (rainbow families and mums doing it alone). She works with a group of like-minded female obstetricians at GROW Obstetrics, within the walls of Epworth Freemasons.Outside of work Karen enjoys travelling, cooking, eating and spending time with her husband and two primary school aged children.
