About
Dr Perera is an Australian-trained Urological Surgeon, accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and the Urologic Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ). Dr Perera has a special interest in Urologic Oncology and completed two-years of additional training in robotic surgery at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York. Dr Perera obtained a Fulbright Scholarship during this time, becoming the first Australasian urologist to be awarded this scholarship. During his tenure at MSKCC, Dr Perera was awarded the 'Clinical Research Award', awarded for the most outstanding research contribution at MSKCC in 2022/2023.
Dr Perera is actively involved in clinical research and completed a PhD (Urology) through the University of Melbourne. Dr Perera has published extensively with over 160 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and frequently presenting at international congresses. Dr Perera recently published the Practice Update for the 2023 AUA Localised Prostate Cancer guidelines for USA.
In addition to over $200,000AUD in research grants, Dr Perera has been awarded numerous prizes including the Villis Marshall Prize, RC Bennet Medal (for Best Scientific Paper at Vic RACS, 2017), and the Frank Gardiner Medal (for Best Presentation at Qld USANZ, 2018).
