About
Sonal completed initial training in Fiji. He has gone on to do further training in Dunedin,Darwin and Geelong undertaking various fellowships. He has attained the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. (FRACS). He is the supervisor of Surgical Training at University Hospital Geelong and is affiliated with Deakin University as the Senior Lecturer in Rural Surgery. He is involved in the supervision/training of medical staff at University Hospital Geelong and Epworth. He has attained recognition of supervision/teaching being nominated with Clinician of the Year (2019, 2020,2021) and Supervisor of the Year (2020) awards over the last 3 years by medical students and junior doctors respectively. He has a strong global health interest being involved in improving surgical services in the Pacific being also invited as an External Examiner with the Fiji National University where he also has an Academic appointment. He has published widely being involved in over 30 publications in peer reviewed journals/textbook. Sonal was also a Fiji National Squash Representative for 10 years and also played at the Commonwealth Games, Pacific Games, International and Local tournaments in the Pacific, New Zealand and Australia.
