About our program

You can participate in an individual or group-based program, tailored to fit your needs

A typical program will cover:

l program will cover:development of active self-management strategies hydrotherapy long-term goal setting and follow-up medication management and specialist support pain education psychological-based interventions relaxation return to work support and planning safe and graded physical exercise and activity

Program process

1.Epworth receives a referral from a GP or specialist

2.Assessment with an Epworth rehabilitation or pain physician

3.Assessment and goal setting meeting by the treating team (physiotherapist, occupational therapist and psychiatrist) to discuss your program development

4.Program commences if appropriate, for up to 12 weeks

5.Review with an Epworth specialist within six months after completion of the program

Who is the program for?

The pain program is for people who: have any pain that has not responded to physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy or surgery have any pain which has lasted longer than three months have been unable to return to work or who are having trouble returning to work have physically deteriorated in strength, fitness, freedom of movement or independence in everyday activities have tried a variety of medications that have not reduced the pain may have feelings of frustration, anger, helplessness, or grief in relation to their situation

Pain conditions we can help you with:

  • Arthritis, including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
  • Chronic widespread pain and fibromyalgia
  • Lower back pain, with or without leg pain
  • Neck pain with or without arm pain, and including whiplash associated disorders
  • Neuropathic (and neuropathic-like) pain
  • Other persistent joint pain
  • Persistent headaches and facial pain
  • Phantom limb pain and other pains associated with amputation
  • Post-surgical pain

Private Health Cover

Epworth Rehabilitation has funding agreements for rehabilitation with most private health funds as well as TAC, WorkSafe and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Epworth patient administration will provide information about fees and the range of services on admission and as requested. Alternatively, you can contact your health fund for information about your cover. You can also choose to self-fund. WorkSafe/TAC Network Pain Alliance Epworth Rehabilitation is part of the WorkSafe/TAC Network Pain Alliance. This means we are a preferred provider and can deliver flexible pain management programs with much shorter waiting periods.
