Who can benefit from pulmonary rehabilitation?

Individuals following a recent pulmonary episode, lung or thoracic surgery Individuals with chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), emphysema, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer

The program aims to:

  • Increase confidence in managing ongoing symptoms and teaches self-management skills.
  • Improve overall quality of life including increased participation in physical and social activities.
  • Reduce symptoms of breathlessness and fatigue by improving the ability to exercise and learn pacing and energy conservation strategies.
  • Regain strength and endurance that may have been lost as a result of inactivity and steroid-induced muscle weakness.
  • Target mood disturbances such as anxiety and depression and provide practical coping strategies and counselling.
