I understand the seriousness of the allegations being reported and recognise that for many people, particularly women who have experienced complex gynaecological care, this reporting will be deeply distressing.

The very purpose of healthcare is to support people at some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. That care involves individual practitioners, multidisciplinary clinical teams and the hospitals in which they work. When trust in any part of that system is questioned, it is confronting for patients and families, and for the many clinicians and staff who work every day to provide safe and compassionate care.

I cannot comment on individual patient cases or on specific clinical allegations while investigations are underway.

I can confirm that concerns were raised with senior management in October 2025, and the matter was referred to Ahpra. As the independent regulator, Ahpra is responsible for assessing practitioner conduct and determining whether any action is required.

Epworth takes clinical governance seriously. When concerns are raised, they are treated with respect, properly examined, and escalated through the appropriate channels. In addition I am commissioning an independent external review of our clinical governance arrangements to consider whether there are further improvements we can make to strengthen oversight and escalation pathways. If improvements are identified, they will be implemented.

I recognise that this reporting may prompt concern for patients and families. Support is available through Epworth’s dedicated feedback and support pathways.
