New service announcement
Epworth Clinic has undertaken the mandatory government requirements to register as an Esketamine Therapy Service and can now offer this service to eligible patients in an inpatient or outpatient setting as clinically indicated by a psychiatrist.
Esketamine was approved for the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme from 1 May 2025 for adults with treatment resistant depression. To be eligible, patients must have a major depressive disorder that has not responded to at least two different oral antidepression medications.
Several Epworth psychiatrists are trained to administer Esketamine in our approved facilities. The medication is administered as a nasal spray under strict medical supervision.
Out-of-pocket fees
- $340 procedure fee per session
This is an out-of-pocket expense to the patient, as the fee is not covered by Medicare or private health insurance. This fee is payable before treatment at ground floor reception. - The fee does not cover services provided by other doctors, radiologists or pathologists, or other costs associated with a hospital stay, such as accommodation or physiotherapy.
- As with any medical procedure, if unforeseen circumstances arise during the procedure and additional medical services are required, the patient may incur additional costs not covered in the procedure fee.
Service opening hours
The Esketamine Therapy Service operates on Wednesdays and Fridays at Epworth Camberwell.
Treatment program
Induction phase - 1-4 weeks
Administered twice a week in first four weeks of treatment.
Maintenance phase - 4+ weeks
Administered once a week for four weeks, then once a week or once every two weeks (up to length of time recommended by your medical practitioner).

Referrals can be made to an authorised Esketamine psychiatrist by completing the Esketamine Referral Form (MR2K) either in person or via the email address below.
