Associate Professor Claudia Di Bella is a highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon with a clinical focus on hip and knee joint replacement, using the latest robotic and computer-navigated technologies. She performs hip replacements via the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA), for which she is a proctor for younger surgeons.
In addition to her work in joint replacement, A/Prof Di Bella is extensively involved in the care of patients with bone and soft tissue tumours, with advanced expertise in complex orthopaedic oncology and limb reconstruction. She is the current Head of the Sarcoma Unit at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne and her work spans between multiple hospitals, including Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, providing multidisciplinary care for all patients with bone and soft tissue tumors of the limbs.
A/Prof Di Bella completed her orthopaedic training at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna, one of the world's leading centres for bone and soft tissue tumour surgery, and holds a PhD in oncology and experimental pathology. She is an Academic Surgeon with a research focus in 3D printing, bioprinting and stem cell technologies for the regeneration of articular cartilage as well as for ground breaking strategies in bone sarcoma treatment. She contributes to national and international research in both arthroplasty and musculoskeletal oncology.
A/Prof Di Bella is also actively involved in training future surgeons, with a special focus on women in surgery and STEMM in general.
