A/Prof John Ding is a gastroenterologist and post-graduate scholar who combines private practice with a senior medical specialist appointment at St Vincent's Public Hospital where he is part of the Gastroenterology and Inflammatory Bowel Disease department, and leads the IBD Clinical trials Unit and the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. He is also an appointed member of the Human Research Ethics Committee and sits on a number of international committees including the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation (largest in IBD) where he is a regular invited speaker. He is the founding chair of the Young Gastroenterology Society Network in Australia. He supervises PhD students and is active in teaching registrars.
John completed his PhD in London in inflammatory bowel disease at Imperial College, where he was also appointed a clinical lecturer in the gut microbiome.
John has a special interest in luminal gastroenterology (IBD and irritable bowel syndrome), and is the Chief investigator of ongoing multi-centre research projects across Australia. He is the medical spokesperson for Bowel Cancer Australia (BCA) and has advocated successfully alongside BCA to lower the screening age for the NBCSP.
John offers endoscopy services at St Vincent's Public and Epworth Hospitals.
John works from a patient-centered approach and is open to discussing patients with GPs to provide cohesive ongoing treatment and care.
