Associate Professor Rebecca Burgell is a consultant gastroenterologist with public appointment at Alfred Health and Monash University. She is a leading academic clinician with expertise in Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders, Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders Clinical Nutrition, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and other immune medicated GI disorders such as Coeliac disease and Eosinophilic oesophagitis.

A dedicated educator and researcher, A/Prof Burgell has contributed to the development of national and international treatment guidelines, medical student education and physician training. Her work continues to shape best practice in the diagnosis and management of complex gastrointestinal conditions.

A/Prof Burgell enjoys working with patients and allied health providers to provide holistic care that improves patient's day to day experience. She is highly experienced managing a broad spectrum of luminal gastroenterology presentations including Iron deficiency, Gastroesophageal reflux, Bowel Cancer Surveillance and Gastrointestinal Bleeding with efficient access to endoscopy services as needed. Her areas of special interest include:

  1. Eosinophilic oesophagitis and other eosinophilic disorders
  2. Coeliac disease
  3. Inflammatory bowel disease including microscopic colitis
  4. Functional bowel disorders
