Dr Chris Anthony is Director of Cardiac Diagnostics and Imaging at Epworth Richmond, and a fractional staff specialist at The Alfred Hospital. He specialises in structural heart imaging, interventional echocardiography and advanced multimodality cardiac imaging. He has particular expertise in imaging for minimally invasive valve repair and replacement procedures, as well as advanced assessment of right heart function and reserve, which plays a critical role in the management of complex structural and valvular heart disease.

Dr Anthony’s clinical practice focuses on multimodality cardiac imaging, including echocardiography, cardiac MRI and cardiac CT. His interests include structural heart disease, right ventricular function, cardiomyopathies and pericardial disease.

He completed cardiology training at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney before undertaking a PhD in cardiac MRI tissue characterisation techniques in cardiac transplantation at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute through the University of New South Wales. His research demonstrated a novel cardiac MRI-based “virtual biopsy” technique for detecting heart transplant rejection and was published in Circulation.

Dr Anthony subsequently completed a two-year advanced cardiac imaging fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, with specialised training in structural echocardiography, cardiac CT and cardiac MRI, where he was selected as the inaugural Ellen H. and F. Gene Braun Fellow.

His clinical work focuses on the application of advanced imaging techniques to guide structural heart interventions and complex cardiac disease assessment, with a particular interest in right heart function and imaging predictors of procedural and clinical outcomes.
