Dr Nigel Sutherland is a Cardiologist and Cardiac Imaging Specialist with subspecialty expertise in the management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He is committed to providing high-quality, empathetic, patient focused care, with clear and effective communication.

Nigel completed his medical studies at the University of Melbourne graduating with distinction (MD Distinction). He was appointed to the Dean's Honours List for outstanding achievement and received numerous prizes and awards including the Florey Ingrid Sheffer Award and the Austin Clinical School Award, awarded to the top placed student at the Austin Clinical School (University of Melbourne).

He undertook his specialist cardiology training at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, MonashHeart and Northern Health. Following this he completed advanced fellowship subspecialising in advanced cardiac imaging at Alfred Health including Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI. During this time he took part in cutting edge research related to Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI.

Currently, he combines his clinical practice with cardiology research, particularly focused on the use of Cardiac MRI in genetic cardiomyopathies and advanced echocardiography (Strain / 3D). He is widely published and has presented both nationally and at international conferences winning the ACC 2023 /WCC Heart Tank for the Cardiovascular Investigator (CHD).
