A/Prof Suman Majumdar is an infectious diseases physician with over 20 years of clinical experience and has worked at Epworth since 2013. He provides inpatient consultation services at Epworth Richmond and Freemasons as part of the City Infectious Disease Group (A/Prof Doug Johnson, A/Prof Sam Hume, Prof James McMahon, Dr Shanti Narayanaswamy) and outpatient consultations at Epworth Richmond. A/Prof Majumdar has a wide-ranging experience in clinical infectious diseases, having completed his infectious diseases training at the Alfred, Royal Melbourne and Royal Darwin Hospitals; and having worked in a variety of Australian - urban, rural, remote - and international health care systems. His areas of interest include general infectious diseases, travel medicine, post-operative infections, tuberculosis (TB), latent TB infection, COVID-19, viral hepatitis and HIV .
Outside of the clinic, he is a public health practitioner and researcher and is currently the Chief Health Officer and a Principal Research Fellow at the Burnet Institute. A/Prof Majumdar has appointments at the Alfred Hospital and Monash University and served in several leadership roles including as Deputy Chief Health Officer in the Victorian Department of Health has represented on national and international public health committees. He received the Epworth HealthCare Group Medical Advisory Council award for outstanding support to medical practitioners in 2021 for work as an infection prevention and control medical advisory lead.
